Mammea, Caribbean Islands
Mammea is a warm-loving plant that has been spread by travelers all over the world. It’s actually a very big berry. The apricot have firm skin and tender flesh, usually one to four seeds in the center. The Aztecs also used Mammea for spicy beverages based on peppers and cocoa beans.
The appearance of the berry reminds one of a mixture of mangoes and apricots for a European. The fruit is most delicious in its raw form. But be sure not abusing it: excessive Mammea causes the intestinal disorder.
Other names are “snake fruit.” The appearance of the salak is frightening: its skin resembles the scales of a snake.
