Disneyland vs Disneyworld

For the casual observer, there may be no difference between Disneyland and Walt Disney World. After all, they both have doughnuts, palaces, and Mickey Mouse. If you think you can choose anyone and spend the same vacation, we have to upset you: you are wrong. There are indeed notable distinctions between these two places. Disney World vs Disneyland, what to choose? Let’s find out in this article.

Where Is Disneyland

This amusement park is situated in Anaheim, California, USA. It can be easily reached from Los Angeles, as the distance between the two cities is only 22 miles.

Where Is Disney World

Walt Disney World is 17 miles (approximately 20 minutes by automobile) from Orlando, Florida, USA.

What Came First Disney World or Disneyland

Perhaps the first step to start is to find out what came first, Disney World or Disneyland? The second one was the first. It was launched on July 17, 1955. Walt Disney World was launched 16 years later, in October 1971. Interestingly, at the time of opening, Disney World had only the Magic Kingdom and two resorts.

How Many Disneylands in the World

There are only 5 Disneyland® Resort theme parks in the world. All of them are distinguished by their magical atmosphere. Let’s find out where else this magical park is and what you can see there.

Undoubtedly one of the oldest and largest among them is Disneyland® Resorts in Anaheim. There are as many as 9 different themed zones, each with unique features, delicious food, and dizzying attractions. Here you can join Twilightseem and help them in pursuit of Jack-Jack or take part in an intergalactic rescue mission by joining the Guardians of the Galaxy. If you’re a fan of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, how about meeting the Mad Hatter live and competing against the White Rabbit in a race against time? This is just a small part of what awaits you in this magical place!

In the city of love, among the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower, Disneyland Paris is lost. Here you can plunge into a fairy tale and meet Snow White, Cinderella, and Belle. Then shake hands with Darth Vader in the Land of Discovery, say hello to Aladdin, and laugh heartily with Mickey Mouse.

Tokyo Disneyland and Disney Sea Resort have as many as 7 harbors that are similar to different topographical areas. Travel to the Mermaid Lagoon and meet Ariel, or venture to the center of the Earth on the Mysterious Moon. To get unforgettable emotions, be sure to go to the Legend of Mythica show, and if you want to laugh with Mickey and his team, take your place on the Fantasmic show. Here everyone can also explore the depths of the ocean on the Nemo & Friends SeaRider ship or plunge into the atmosphere of the Wild West by taking a train ride through the desert.

Shanghai Disneyland Resort is rich in entertainment. Here you can fight Pirates of the Caribbean for a lost treasure or go down the mine with Snow White and the dwarfs. Although it only opened in 2016, hundreds of thousands of tourists come here every year to plunge into this fantasy.

Hong Kong Disneyland Park is one of the newest and smallest parks in terms of area (not as small as you might think, one day in this park would not be enough for you). It was built on Lantau Island in 2005. Compared to other parks, its distinctive feature is its adaptation to Asian culture. Everything here is Feng Shui, in the truest sense of the word. At every step, you would find references to Chinese culture, which looks very organic next to attractions and cafés.

Disney World or Disneyland: Which One Is Bigger?

The biggest difference between Disneyland and Disney World is the scale. Disney World is so big that it can hold 60 Disneylands! It is a massive property, home to four four theme parks, many hotels, and other facilities. Walt Disney World occupies approximately 30,000 acres. Disneyland, meanwhile, covers no more than 500 acres.

Disney World Castle vs Disneyland Castle

Disneyland vs Disney World: Cost

Despite such a variety of Disney castles, the main difference between them is the owner. The magic kingdom in Florida belongs to Cinderella, and the castle in California belongs to Sleeping Beauty.

Undoubtedly, the first difference between them that catches the eye is the square meters. In this battle, in terms of the size of the area and the invested budget, Cinderella’s castle definitely wins. Imagine: it stretches a whopping 189 pounds in height and has 27 towers!

As for its Disneyland counterpart, it is almost three times smaller – just 77 feet. But trust us, Sleeping Beauty Castle looks just as impressive.

Interesting fact, both castles use a reverse perspective to appear larger. This means that the lower tier is in actual size, and the upper tiers are gradually reduced in size to create the illusion of distance.

Disneyland vs Disney World: Rides

Perhaps the first question that comes up when comparing these two magical places is how many parks do Disneyland and Disney World have? The first one has only 2 parks, while Disney World has 4. But any of the six magical parks is memorable. It is clear that there is a lot to see and do at Disney World, but that does not mean that there is no such chance at Disneyland.

It would not come as a surprise to many that California has more rides per park. But you would not have much to lose because both magical worlds put on the same attractions. A few examples are Space Mountain, Pirates of the Caribbean, Indiana Jones, Haunted Mansion, Splash Mountain, and the new Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

But there are also some exciting rides and attractions that you can only find in one place. For example, Kilimanjaro Safaris, Expedition Everest, and Pandora Flight of Passage are a part of Animal Kingdom in Disney World. Also, you won’t see Cars Land and Radiator Springs Racers anywhere other than the West Coast.

Disney World vs Disneyland: Transport

Disneyland has a much more modest holding, which means walking accessibility between hotels and the center of the park.

The main entry to Disneyland and Disney California Adventure are opposite each other, and they have common ticket offices. If you linger at any of the Disney hotels, you will immediately be taken to the parks. You can also take the monorail, which is in the center of Disney, and come directly to Tomorrowland inside Disneyland Park.

Disney World is much larger and therefore has more attractions and facilities. Thus, walking would be inconvenient. But one thing – absolutely every Disney hotel gives free travel to parks. Depending on which hotel you are in, transportation can include boats, buses, the monorail, or Disney Skyliner. You can also take a free shuttle to the park directly from the airport.

These two Disney parks host numerous shows and a huge list of entertainment. There are parades, firecrackers, and shows like Fantasmic. But it’s worth remembering that Disney World has twice as many parks, so you have more options to pick out from.

Disneyland vs Disney World: Cost

Disney World Castle vs Disneyland Castle

Understandably, due to the difference in the area, Disney World tickets cost a little more than its smaller version, Disneyland.

To attend Disney World, a one-day pass costs between $114 and $199 for adults, but sometimes the price is slightly different due to dynamic pricing. Entry for children under 3 years old remains free as always.

For a one-day ticket to Disneyland, you have to pay about $117 for grown-ups, children under 3 years old are also free.

For these parks, the daily value declines as you top up days to your multi-day pass. If you have a couple of free days in stock, then we advise you to do just that. One day would not be enough to taste all the delicious food and ride all the slides.

Disneyland vs Disneyworld: Which Is Better

Eventually, which one is better? If you consider all the above information, the answer itself would come to you. Comparing these two magical worlds is like comparing an apple to a pear: they are both delicious and would make you full; your personal preference plays the most important role here.
